Mira Petkova is a freelance illustrator creating editorial and narrative illustrations for books and publications. She grew up creating her own small worlds – sewing rag dolls and building cardboard houses. She later graduated from the National Academy of Arts in Sofia, where she studied scenography. Her background in set design inspires her love of immersive world-building and emotionally nuanced visual storytelling. She has worked on published books as both illustrator and cover designer and is the creator of the webcomic Aware Animals, which has built an engaged online following.

Her work explores how we learn to understand ourselves and one another, supporting children and their parents in growing with empathy, curiosity, and a deeper sense of belonging.
